Okay, so it's a poor rip-off of the "Who's yer daddy?" line, but I needed a title for this post...
First off, welcome to ntrprzng thoughts, the subtitle gives you the basics - Catholic, Husband/Father, Entrepreneur, Gadget Freak, Political Opinionist - only the first three are in order, the rest come and go as my attention demands it...so if you can put up with some of my disjointed conversations with myself, then welcome!
On to the topic at hand...
It's should be reasonably obvious from the title of this blog that I'm pretty conservative in my opinions and views, that said I'm excited and dismayed all at the same time when it comes to the presidential primaries and caucus's around the nation, they're so bloody unpredictable! Just when you think a poll is painting a somewhat accurate picture, the results turn that poll on it's end - or the grassroots efforts of various candidates skew a poll because of an email blast that says, "Go here - vote for x!" In my limited experience with presidential election cycles (4 now), this is the first that has had a truly effective grassroots effort via the Internet that has brought candidates to the forefront that wouldn't have normally had a drunk redneck's chance in an alligator pit.
Of course, as you have probably guessed from my sidebar, I'm a Mike Huckabee supporter! I don't think he would have had a real chance had there not been a grassroots Internet effort to make people aware of him. This has been an easy choice for me simply because what I've seen from all the other candidates doesn't sit well with me. Ron Paul for is anti-war stance, Mitt Romney for his change on his stance on abortion, Rudy Giuliani for his record in New York on firearms (and abortion), and John McCain - while he is an INCREDIBLE patriot - scares me for his left leaning tendencies. The only person that makes sense to me right now is Mike Huckabee - strong on all the issues that concern me and not willing to back down or waffle because a poll said he was this, or that.
As a side note, I must admit that from well before Fred Thompson announced he was running for office, until just this week - I would have voted for Fred before Mike, but now that Fred has stepped down, it's time for me to step up and stand for a candidate that I think has a real chance to not only win the GOP nomination, but win the election in November. If you haven't had the opportunity to visit www.mikehuckabee.com, I would encourage you to do so NOW! You can always come back to my ramblings.
Now, I have been writing this and listening/watching the streaming video of the Florida debate - I have to say I think that while all the candidates ultimately would make a great President (save Ron Paul for more reasons than his viewpoint on the war), the one who truly stood out tonight was Mike. Here's why:
- He was challenged by McCain on the Fairtax issue, and not only answered him, but gave the American people a broader view of the Fairtax - if you haven't read the book, it's a very fast read, I got the e-book from my local library.
- All the others talked about why the thought the "economic stimulus package" was good and what could be added, Mike talked about how to change the economy so that we wouldn't have to have these packages!
- And on a lighter note - Chuck Norris could kick Rambo's ass any day of the week!
So, stay tuned, contribute to Mike, and keep on checkin' back, I'm sure I'll make somebody mad eventually!
